Toolesboro Touchstones: Prairie Walk

Saturday, July 11; 1-2 pm and 2-3 pm

Prehistoric Iowa was predominately covered in prairie grass. Join us for a prairie hike to connect prairies, past and present.

Louisa County Conservation Naturalist Lana Artz-McComb and Prairie Enthusiast Nancy Hayes will guide short hikes through the prairie located just west of the Toolesboro National Historic Landmark.

Registration is required to ensure that hike groups are kept to 10 participants for social distancing requirements. Please call the office at 319-523-8381 or This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. to register.

Hikes will cover ~1/2 mile of mowed trail. Participants are welcome to go over to the Toolesboro Museum where interepretive staff will be available to show people the outdoor displays and burial mounds.

The musuem is currently closed to the public with the opening date yet to be determined. Hikers should plan on using the restroom prior to arrival, bringing their own water, and dressing comfortably for weather conditions.
